#49 The Perfect Duo

Hello!

Other than lipsticks, foundation is my next big downfall when it comes to make up. I just can't help myself and am always on the look out for something new. A while back I was in boots about to repurchase another foundation favourite and I couldn't resist the buy one get one half price offer on make up. That day I picked up No.7 Instant Radiance Foundation in Warm Ivory (£12.50) and fell in love. It's a medium coverage foundation that can be built up easily. As the packaging suggests, this beauty really brightens up the skin, giving a boost of radiance to any complexion.

As well as foundations and lipsticks, I've purchased quite a few primers recently. With this surprisingly hot weather my face doesn't quite know what's hit it, so trying to keep make up in place has become even more difficult! Luckily my curiosity led me to purchase The Body Shop Instablur Primer (£14) and my god, this stuff is amazing. The consistency is pretty thick and really smooths over the skin, covering all imperfections to leave a smooth even base. The only negative I would give this product, is that it does break up a lot when it's squeezed from the tube. Personally I don't think it's much of an issue though, I just rub it between my fingers a little to bring it all together and smooth it over the face and it works marvellously.

I now find myself reaching for these two on a daily basis, they compliment each other so well and I love the results. So, if you're looking for a bright complexion that will last all day, these two products are made for you!

What are your perfect foundation combinations?

#48 Do It Yourself: Ombré

Good Evening!

Ombré hair has been one of the things to do to hair for the past couple of years and although it might not be the it craze right now, I still love it. Although I had dabbled with hair dye before I was skeptical of diving into the ombré trend. I didn't want to spend loads of money getting it done at the hairdressers and I was worried about using a packet kit as I'd heard horror stories of blonde hair going disastrously wrong. It wasn't until a friend of mine (Alice) told me that she had tried the L'Oreal Preference Wild Ombres dyeing kit that I decided to give it a go myself- I've since repurchased the kit 4 times!

How I apply this wonderfully brilliant product
Going by the advice I received from Alice, I never follow the instructions included but do it differently.

Step 1
I start by mixing the dye together, putting on the gloves, wearing something I don't mind bleaching the hell out of and then I sit comfortably in front of a mirror.

Step 2
Then, I split my hair equally into 2 sections and pull both sections over my shoulders so that I can see them in the mirror in front of me (you don't have to sit in front of a mirror but it makes it easier to see what sections are covered/need more dye).

Step 3
Next I squeeze some dye (roughly the size of a 50p) into my hands and apply it to the very ends of my hair, starting on one side and then repeating the same on the other. I keep adding more and more dye until the bottom 1/2 inches of my hair are covered well. The longer your hair is the higher you might want to go in this part, it all depends on how you want the final effect to look. Once both bottom sections of my hair are covered I take the brush/comb and pull it through the parts containing the dye. I do this to make sure that all hairs are reached and that it is not just the outer layers that are covered. If the dye looks sparse after this step add more. Then, leave the dye for 10 minutes.

Step 4
One the 10 minutes is up get back to the dye and roughly squeeze 2 times the amount of dye as you did before into your hands. This time I cover the areas that are already covered as well as working it through 1/2 inches of hair above that. I use the same method as above to make sure it's all covered well (you don't want to end up like a leopard with odd patches everywhere!). Again, leave this section for 10 minutes and then move on.

Step 5
This is the final 'dyeing' stage. Once the 10 minutes is up, do exactly the same as before and again, move 1/2 inches further up you hair. I usually aim to stop the dye at chin level. It is probably a good idea to decide where you want it to end before you start, that way you can make sure you're going up in even stages each time. This is the final stage, so to avoid having a blunt line where the colour differs from your natural hair colour, try and blend it in and don't worry about it being straight.

Step 6
At this point you can go WILD and just whack ALL the rest of the dye on your hair. Sometimes I add a lot more to the tips as I want them to be nice and blonde, but it's all down to personal preference really! Then leave the dye on the hair for a further 20 minutes, or for longer/shorter depending on your desired shade. The first time I used this I was too scared that my hair was going to go bright white so I washed it off a little too early and wasn't that impressed by the results. The second time I'd learnt my lesson and I was persistent in waiting and loved the results! So try not to worry yourself, 40-50 minutes is the perfect time. Finally, just wash it off in the shower and use the conditioning treatment provided and then dry and admire.

I do suggest that you apply lots of friendly hydrating oils to the dyed area, particularly the ends as hair does tend to get quite dry as soon as the dye is applied. After a bit of TLC they'll get back to normal though, don't panic! I would just like to say that I am far from a professional hair stylist, but this method works wonders for me so thought I would share it with you!

Good luck to any of you that go on to try this!

P.S There are a few different shades on offer, I have mousey brown/light brown hair and have used shade No. 2 each time, however there are lighter/darker kits depending on your hair colour.

#47 Day to Night With Minimal Effort

Hello Again!

I mentioned in my last post, 'Natural Beauty', that it was a look that could easily be adapted through changing the eyes or lips to suit you. The day after wearing this look I couldn't resist reaching for my favourite red, Max Factor's Colour Elixir Lipstick (Ruby Tuesday)  - a girl can't be parted from her lipstick for too long now. I kept the rest of my make up the same as I'd previously mentioned in my last post, however this time gave the eyeliner a miss and opted for No.7's Instant Radiance Foundation (Warm Ivory), which I think I prefer to Bobbi Brown's Skin Foundation... Anyway, I just wanted to show how easily 'natural' looking makeup can be adapted to suit a person's personality, or simply to take them through to the night with minimal effort. The bright lips also shout summer and their contrast against the rest of the makeup leaves the complexion looking bright and fresh - perfect!

I am off to Lanzarote on Thursday (I cannot wait to get some sunshine and leave this dull weather behind!) so it's unlikely that I will be posting anything much until next weekend, but fear not I have many more posts planned for my return!

#46 Natural Beauty

Hello again!

I've recently returned home after spending three absolutely amazing years at university in Southampton, bringing countless bags of 'stuff' back with me. I literally cannot get over how much stuff I have accumulated whilst I've been away! Everything was shoved into my brothers room (as he is away at university) and left for me to sort out now that I have nothing to do with my days. So, that's all I've been doing this week which means I have not left the house once and am beginning to get very bored. Although I have a weird love for organising my room over and over, when I HAVE to do it it gets a little tedious.

Get to the point Bec...

I gave my skin a breather, treating it to a few makeup free days earlier this week, but as the week has gone on I haven't been able to resist the temptation of reaching for the makeup. As I haven't actually been leaving the house I've felt that I can experiment with looks that I don't usually go for. Yesterday I decided to create a "not wearing any makeup" makeup look.

The key to making this look work is making sure that your complexion looks flawless yet natural. I am still trying to master the "dewy glow" that everyone craves but I'm getting there.

I am without camera at the moment *cry cry* so have had to use my phone for the photos, hence the poor quality- sorry!

The Base
I started with Loreal Paris' Lumi Magique pure light primer which is meant to help provide a luminous finish to your complexion and although it is okay, I'm not blown away by this product. For the base I used my beloved Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation in Warm Ivory No.1 using the Bobbi Brown Foundation Stick in Warm Ivory No.1 for extra coverage where needed. I also used Collection Cosmetic's Illuminating Touch Concealer under my eyes to brighten them and get rid of any dark bags. As you can tell by the photo, this is a product that has received a lot of love.

For the cheeks I chose Clarins Multi-Blush in Peach (01)which is a pretty, coral shade. I'm not the best at applying cream blush but it's something I really want to work on as they can looks so pretty and natural. I'm definitely trying to take advantage of the fact that I am not seeing anyone to try and work on new things! To complete the base I dusted The Body Shop Honey Bronze Bronzing Powder in Fair Matte (02) over my forehead, cheeks and jawline to warm up my complexion a little.

The Eyes
I wanted to use a neutral, barely noticeable yet warming shade on the eyes so opted for The Body Shop's Colour Crush Eyeshadow in Caramel Flirt (205). I covered the entire eyelid using a Real Techniques base shadow brush and blended it with a Real Techniques deluxe crease brush. Once I'd finished with the shadow I used a brown eyeliner (which has miraculously disappeared, hence it's absence from the photo) along the lash line and blended out with a Real Techniques brow brush. To complete the eyes I used Clinique's High Impact Mascara ensuring that the product wasn't applied too thick, keeping with the natural look. Although I used a black mascara, brown would also be suitable for this look. For the eyebrows I lightly filled in any sparse areas with another Colour Crush Eyeshadow, Coconuts About You (215) also using the Real Techniques brow brush.

The Lips
Finally (on to my favourites) I decided to use MAC's Shy Girl on my lips.

This look is great, particularly for summer as it is very fresh and easily adaptable. Opting for a darker shade on the eyes or a brighter/bolder lip can completely transform this look, making it perfect for a day to night option too! I would definitely suggest that anyone who is at school, or attending interviews etc opts for a subtle look such as this, as it's "natural" looking and easy to maintain.

And breathe!

I wasn't expecting this to go on for so long! I hope you've enjoyed it, if any of you have any tips on the "dewy complexion" or applying creme blush send them my way!

Until next time,

#45 The Ultimate Bold Lip

Hello!

Today I am back on the topic of lips (I didn't realise how much I had to say about them). I think I've made it pretty clear that I adore a statement lip, so I thought that it's about time that I share my ultimate go-to bold lipstick- Max Factor's Colour Elixir Lipstick in Ruby Tuesday (£7.99 from boots - there is also an opportunity to bag yourself a free gift at the moment too- bonus!).

3 years ago I was never brave enough to reach for a bright/bold lip colour but now it seems to be all I care about when applying my makeup! Roughly 2 years ago I decided to take the plunge and give my face that pop of colour that I am now obsessed with. Being at uni it's easy to try new styles and products as you're away from those who you are used to being around. I'm pretty sure that this lipstick was one of my first 'brave' purchases- I hit the jackpot early, since then I think I've repurchased this item 2/3 times as I literally wear it most days. It is such a beautiful shade of red, bright, rich and warming to my complexion, I can't not love it! It has great staying power however the overall finish and longevity is obviously increased with the use of a lipliner. I find that No.7's Precision Lip Pencil in Fire is a great match and affordable too at only £6.75. I usually wear this lipstick with a neutral eye/winged liner and apply a lip pencil over the entire lip for full coverage. Although I don't tend to wear lip glosses, applying a red or clear gloss after application helps accentuate lips even further.

I hope you've enjoyed this post and I highly recommend this beautiful lipstick! Also, don't forget to be brave! It can be a bit daunting to sport dark eyes or a bold lip if you and those around you aren't used to it but it try it and you might never look back.

#44 Shimmering Showers

Hello!

Yet again I've been away for a while but thankfully this time it's been because I've been enjoying some much craved sunshine in Ibiza, rather than working frantically to meet deadlines!

Anyway, onto the good stuff...

Today I'm talking shower gel in the form of this beautiful, shimmery liquid.

A while back my eyes were drawn to this Super Beauty bath and shower gel- it was on offer and the shimmery colour really caught my eye. I know shower gel isn't the most exciting of products but I love trying new bathroom products, be it shampoo or body wash etc. I think I bought this for about £2 from Boots and it comes in a really large bottle so it was a great deal really! It smells absolutely delicious, sweet yet refreshing. Apart from the scent, my favourite part is the shimmery, pink liquid. Who doesn't want to wake up in the morning to pink shimmery goodness? I don't know if I'd buy it again at full price simply because I love trying new things, but if it was on offer I'm sure I'd cave in.

Until next time,

Becmo xo
